The film follows Phil Connors, a local network news weather man with dreams of making it nationally. On camera he's amazing, full of energy and laughs and off it he's the complete opposite, a bitter, self-centred version of what we see on camera.

After being stranded on an assignment in Pennsylvania, he starts to live the same day over and over. To get himself out of the limbo, he must do something he has never attempted before, to care about the lives of others.
